Cheap Flights to Ancona

Ancona overview

When is the best time to fly to Ancona?

Peak Season:

Like most destinations in Europe, the busiest and most expensive time to visit Ancona is between June and the end of August. This is when temperatures are at their warmest, ranging from 15 to 28 degrees Celsius.

Low Season:

Anyone wanting to save on their trip should look for a cheap flight to Ancona between November and mid-March, as this is when airfares drop considerably, along with room rates. The weather isn’t ideal, but is tolerable for anyone who doesn’t mind a chill in the air and some rainfall. Visitors should expect temperatures in the region of 1 to 14 degrees.

Shoulder Season:

April, May, September and October see fewer visitors, but prices don’t usually drop much when it comes to accommodation and flights to Ancona. These months however, are very nice times to visit thanks to smaller crowds and nice weather.

City overview

The port city of Ancona is the capital of the Marche region located in central Italy. It might not get the attention of some other more popular destinations in Italy, but it’s definitely worth a visit. First off, the city puts visitors in a good position to explore the Marche region, often described as one of Italy’s hidden gems due to the region’s natural beauty.

Ancona itself is positioned on the Adriatic Sea, and in addition to its picturesque location, the city is a gem for the lovers of history. Visitors should be sure to check out the 11th century duomo (cathedral), the most important building in the city and one which affords beautiful views of the port and the sea below. Other noteworthy sights in Ancona include the 59 ft (18 m) high Arch of Trajan, the Museo Archeologico Nazionale delle Marche (national archeological museum), and the Parco del Cardeto.

Being a port city, Ancona offers much in the way of fresh seafood. The dining experience here and in the Marche region is yet another reason to visit. The focus is on fresh, local ingredients so foodie travellers on flights to Ancona will not be disappointed. There is also a good range of accommodation but it’s a good idea to book ahead during peak season (June through August).

Getting around Ancona

The main sites and attractions in the town centre can all be easily accessed on foot so getting around without a car is possible for anyone staying within this area. Renting a bicycle is also an option and can be done at various points in the city. There is also a public bus system that offers another way to get around. Anyone planning on seeing more of the Marche region should rent a car to make it easier when going further afield.

Getting from the Airport to the City

Travellers who take a flight to Ancona will land at the Ancona Falconara Airport (AOI) which lies 8 miles (13 km) west of the city. There are several transportation options upon arrival, including taxi, bus, and train. Taxis are available outside of the terminal and depending on traffic should take about 20 minutes to get to the city centre. There is an airport bus that runs from the airport to Ancona with travel time being 30 minutes, and there is a train station just outside the terminal where visitors can get a train into the city. Travel time by train is 20 to 25 minutes.
