The town of Newquay in Cornwall has long been one of the UK’s most popular seaside holiday resorts, with many booking cheap flights to Newquay due to the lure of its beautiful coastline and countryside and its wealth of accommodation options and activities. Newquay boasting some of the best surfing opportunities in the country at the likes of Fistral Beach, and the English National Surfing Championships are held at Watergate Bay every May.
Newquay is also an excellent base from which to explore the wider region of Cornwall: charming towns such as Padstow and St Ives as well as county capital Truro are within easy reach, as well as attractions such as the Eden Project. Travellers with an interest in history are in luck here too: Cornwall contains remains dating back as far as the Neolithic era, with treasures such as Stone Age henges and megaliths, Bronze Age barrows and stone circles, and Iron Age forts such as Newquay’s cliff castle at Trevelgue Head.
Its southwesterly location means that Newquay, as with Cornwall in general, tends toward milder weather than much of England. Spring often occurs a little earlier than in other regions, winters are generally less cold, and summers warmer. The summer months of June and July are generally warmest and sunniest, and winter months of December, January and February the coolest.
Newquay’s peak tourist season occurs during the summer months, particularly July and August, as these are when weather is likely to be warmest and driest. This is reflected in travel and accommodation prices and availability.
The winter months are when Newquay is quietist in terms of tourism, as the weather is likely to be coolest and wettest at this time.
Spring and early autumn, however, are good times to visit, as weather is likely to still be favourable yet peak season crowding and prices have yet to set in.
All attractions within the town of Newquay are within easy reach on foot. However, Stagecoach, First, and Greyhound Western operate bus routes to nearby towns and villages, and First Great Western and Cross Country Trains also offer rail links in the region.
