Directions for the drop off location at the Madrid airport were unavailable when we needed them. We tried both Google maps and Waze to get to "Hertz Madrid Airport" and a multitude of other variations of Hertz car return, airport, etc. and they all took us to closed roads that were for airport employees only. Providing a specific drop off address and/or step by step directions to get to the drop off location would have been helpful since the online maps don't work.

Staff was friendly. Pick up location was convenient. Car was ready and clean and easy to drive.

At pick-up we were charged an extra 69 euro fees on top of the $72 in fees already paid. Adding up to about $150 to the base car rental fee for a 4 day rental. (Base rate was $120. We actually paid closer to $300 total) The break down apparently was a 40 euro fee to drop off at a different location. Plus some 21% tax that added up to 29 euro. The other $72 was a $18 “taxes and fees” per day. I found it to be deceptive pricing on Hertz’s part.

Pickup was a horrendous experience. I've always been able to grab a car earlier than my reservation time. I understand it’s ultimately based off availability, so when the front desk attendant told me I couldn't get it sooner than one hour before my reservation time, I was okay with that. That was until I was assigned a car which had been clearly sitting on the lot before I arrived - a complete waste of my time. I usually pay for car rental insurance through 3rd party vendors, which is always fine. But for some reason, the front desk attendant told me I wasn't insured. I said I was and just paid it through Kayak (at $27), and he said that my file says I did not pay and had to pay Avis if I wanted the car insured. I dug through my emails and showed him the receipt proving I was insured through the reservation, and he tells me that it only covers changing the reservation. When I downloaded the PDF and showed that I was actually insured for damages to the vehicle up to $40,000, he said they didn't accept Allianz anyways and I had to cancel with them and pay Avis 90 euros to protect my car against damages. I told him that it didn’t make sense for Kayak to offer insurance that Avis wouldn’t accept and asked if he could tell me about their policies with 3rd party rentals. He said he doesn't have that information (could be true but still a reflection on Avis having terrible training policies - insurance is a big/complicated deal and their front desk attendants should understand the ins and outs of it) and goes on to say the car is only protected if I purchase through Avis. I obliged as I was tired of going back and forth and trusted that he knew more than I did being that he is an actual Avis employee. After doing some research, it sounds like I would have been fine through Allianz. This is incredibly disappointing as I feel I was manipulated through scare tactics to fork over more money for an already overpriced reservation. He also knew I was traveling into Portugal, and offered no help or assistance in regards to potential tolls, bridge fees, etc. All he seemed to car about was making me pay more and trying to spend as little time as possible providing actual customer service.

Veronica ( young woman, I think that’s her name) was extremely helpful and explained everything in detail. She was friendly and cheerful and answered other questions we had. Liked the car- drove well snd was comfortable. It was an easy process to order the car overseas. Drop off procedures made clear. Thank you.

You’ve got to be kidding me. What an absolute pathetic joke of a rental car company. Where do I even begin… First upon arrival for our 3 PM reservation we walked in at 2:15pm. We were immediately told by a rude clerk that the rental was not ready - we thought this was interesting given that our reservation time was 45 minutes from our arrival. Still though, all she said was to go away and come back for our reservation. She never said specifically when, but that the reservation wouldn’t be ready until 3pm. We went to lunch - In Spain, lunches are traditionally longer than expected we were not finished until 330 and immediately walked over to the rental car station. It was then where we were told by a different rude clerk that The car we had reserved was no longer available and that we needed to have been they are to pick it up within 15 MINUTES of the reservation time. She stated that because we weren’t, the reservation had been completely CANCELED. As you can imagine this was a complete surprise to us a because A) that is an absolutely absurd expectation for individuals traveling, and B) because we were never told this the first time we visited this location—NOR WAS IT STATED IN THE CONFIRMATION EMAIL. Because our reservation was canceled we tried to rebook from a different location with a car available the next day; somehow the story gets even better. Upon arrival for our 9 AM reservation the next morning we sat there and waited until 9:15am and no one even showed up to the store. We called the number posted on the front door and an individual actually told us that the reason no one was at the store was because we hadn’t completed a detail on the reservation that stated we had an international drivers license. We were never even told we needed an international drivers license. Apparently this is an expectation for Enterprise, but IT IS NOT for several of their competitors (Six car rental, Hertz, Avis). The happy ending is that we were able to book a car with Six and not have to miss the rest of our trip. Enterprise rental nearly made us miss the wedding we were planning to attend. If you are looking for a reliable affordable communicative rental car service I do not recommend enterprise rental car with any fiber of my being. My suggestion is to book with Hertz, Avis, or Six car rental first and foremost.

Drop-off after hours was straighforward

Pick up took 30 minutes. It could have been 5 minutes, if one member of staff had been in the car park and the other membver of staff had dealt with the minimal paperwork and left the customer to walk with the car keys from the office to the car park
