There’s really no bad time to visit Kapalua since it’s beautiful all year round, but if you want to save on flights and accommodation or travel when there are less crowds, shoulder season, which includes April through May, and September through November, is the best option. Peak season runs from mid-December through March. Surfing conditions are best during the peak season, however so that should be taken into consideration for anyone interested in catching a wave or two.
The Kapalua Wine and Food Festival happens in June so foodies should consider timing their visit around the event.
Anyone who enjoys the beach and being by the water would like Kapalua, and rightly so – it’s considered one of Maui’s premiere resort areas. Located at the foot of the West Maui Mountains, Kapalua is surrounded by the protected West Maui rainforest and two marine sanctuaries. In addition to the abundance of natural beauty surrounding it, Kapalua has five gorgeous public beaches to choose from, as well as two championship golf courses. Also referred to as Kapalua Resort, the area is an ideal destination for experiencing some of the best of what Hawaii has to offer, as well as being a good base for exploring more of Maui.
Anyone wanting a surge of adrenalin (as well as spectacular views) can ride one of the largest zipline courses in Hawaii. The ziplines are parallel so two people can ride at the same time. Kapalua is also home to the longest suspension bridge in Hawaii.
Hikers can take advantage of the long trails (free to use) that show off the beauty of the area and the diverse landscape, and levels of difficulty vary, from easy walks to more strenuous trails. Snorkelers will find much to explore under the water with some of the best snorkelling in Maui within easy reach. Whale watching tours (normally December to April), and surfing are also activities on offer in Kapalua. A good choice of restaurants, accommodation options, and shopping opportunities rounds out the experience.
You can easily get around Kapalua on foot, or the same shuttle service that takes guests to and from the airport also transports guests and residents around Kapalua. Call the shuttle service centre and allow at least 15 minutes for a response time. You can also ask your hotel front desk or concierge service to call for a shuttle for you. Anyone planning on seeing more of Maui should rent a car, and there are car rental services at the airport.
West Maui Airport is just a 10-minute drive from Kapalua. The Kapalua Resort Association provides shuttle service to and from the airport. If you plan on using the complementary service simply call the shuttle service centre 24 hours in advance with your flight information and arrival time.
